Levelling a Caravan – Dual or Single Axle – How to do it safely!

Most caravaners go for the old option as they did not know there was any other.  Ramps!  Great…until you get to uneven ground then they split as they do not flex at all.

RAMPS

Ramps!  Great…until you get to uneven ground then they split as they do not flex at all.

Ramps and dual axles are near impossible.  It is a lot harder when the wheels are too close together.

This photo was taken at the Dubbo Camping Show and this is the setup being used on a display van by a caravan sales company.  As you can see one wheel is great up on the ramp, the other is on the edge of it.  This is because the ramp did not fit between the tyres.  The amount of tyre on the right hand ramp is less than 3 cm causing damage to the side of the tyre let alone additional movement in the van.  As you can see the tyres are also not chocked and the exhibitor is relying only on a handbrake to stop this van moving with people inside.

ANDERSON LEVELLERS

Others recommend the moon shape levellers as these do fit between the tyres.  Well they are not all they are “cracked” up to be either.  This image was provided by a customer who did not have the best experience using these very expensive levellers.  These levellers also tend to twist when not on very flat ground causing issues as well.

ROCKS AND BLOCKS OF WOOD

Then there are the old school campers who are happy with blocks of wood, bricks and other everyday items to level up.  We have seen some truly creative people on the road. Blocks of wood, bricks and rocks are unreliable and unsafe. Who wants to take a risk of loosing their van by using a cheap or no cost option! We love and vans and spend good money on them.  We should be levelling correctly and safely.

This is why OziBlocknChock is such a great option.  Level on a flat surface, tyre supported, wheels chocked and peace of mind that you have your van level and locked in place safely.
