The big discussion regarding camping mats!

Everyone who camps would agree that a camping mat is an essential camping accessory.

There are so many out there on the market and I know from experience what has worked and what does not.

I had brought the rubber mesh one that allows water to run through. I found that it was slippery when wet, tears easily, and was very bulky. The major issue was that the dirt below came straight up through the mat as the weave was too open. So this bulky mat was tossed.

Next, I purchased the shade cloth matting. These are the ones recommended for areas that require the ground to breathe and the grass to be able to grow through. Not sure what the purpose is of a mat that has grass growing through it…gave it a go. I found again it was slippery when wet but the water did flow through the mat, however, the dirt also came back up making a muddy mess. Again another disappointing option.

So when I attended a camping show I saw a mat made from recycled plastic. I found the weave to be a lot tighter plus the designs were nice. I was assured that it would be the best solution for me so I thought I would give it a go! At my next camping trip, I used it and it just happening to poor rain….a great test. So the water did run though as promised and the dirt, or mud, did not come back up. The best part was…..it was not slippery at all. It folded away when done and had a great carry bag to keep the dirt and water contained.

I also found that the mat was breathable and enabled the air to get through to the grass reducing damage as well. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend these mats.
